We're Kicking Off 2018 with Some New SOS Babies!

Carolina Poodle Rescue's SOS program allows us to say yes to seniors and special needs dogs in need. Frequently we know that a dog is a candidate for our SOS program, but that is not always the case. A dog that the shelter has determined is 8 years old may present to our team as more of a 13-year-old dog. The timid dog at the shelter may actually have bigger fears than the noises of the shelter. An otherwise healthy dog may surprise everyone with a major medical issue. Regardless, of how they found us, when CPR says yes, we mean it!

Over the past 6 months, our SOS team and staff at the farm have been working together to evaluate all dogs at the farm and determine who would be candidates to convert to our SOS program in the new year. Some decisions were easy. Like Gladys who came to CPR when her owners could no longer manage her diabetes. A quick assessment by our team determined that Gladys was actually a very sick, unstable girl who also happened to be blind. She is perfect for our SOS program, and she is loving life in her foster home. Some decisions are not as simple. Like Deanna, a hound who followed a caregiver to work one day and told us she was home. Deanna has been calling Dreamweaver Farms home for 2 years now. She is a very affectionate girl who is selective about the doggie friends she makes. We don't know why there haven't been any takers for this sweet girl, but we know she will always have a home with CPR.

On January 1, 2018, we converted 40 dogs into our SOS program. Yes, you read that correctly - 40 dogs. The number is staggering at first glance. It is also a testament to the size of the need for loving sanctuaries for senior and special needs dogs, and Carolina Poodle Rescue's commitment to saving lives. Over the next 6 months we will be introducing you to each of these special babies and asking for your help in supporting their ongoing care. For now, please check out www.cprsos.org to meet some of our new faces and read about their stories.

If you aren't involved with our SOS program but would like to be, we would love to have you!! If one speaks to your heart, please email cprsosdogs@carolinapoodlerescue.org to say YES to supporting one of our dogs. $20/month helps us save precious lives and say YES to seniors and special needs dogs in need!

Thank you!
Your SOS team

2017 Twelve Dogs of Christmas Update

The Twelve Dogs of Christmas is still going on through the  end of January. Four of them have found their forever homes--eight more are still hoping that the new year will bring them their families! You can read about each of the dogs by clicking on their names. If you know of someone who may be interested in these wonderful dogs, please share the URL for their landing page.

The Twelve Dogs of Christmas are priceless - so we do not charge an adoption fee for these companions. They come with a supply of any medications they may need and, of course, food to transition, collar and I.D. tag and leash.
They also come with many blessings to you for giving a dog a home who really needed a home.

If you are a previous adopter or an already approved adopter and are interested in one of the Twelve Dogs, please drop an email to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org. If you are are on our distribution but are not yet an approved adopter, please complete an application form and let us know who you are interested in adopting.

Feature Pet of the Month

Meet Tinkerbell, affectionately known as "Tink". A 3-year old, 8-pound terrier mix, young Tink was surrendered to a shelter in North Carolina by her owners. Luckily for CPR and Tink, one of our fabulous volunteer intake coordinators took one look at her scruffy face, spiked top notch, and perfect white stripe down her head and chest and knew we would help her find her forever family.

Tinkerbell is timid when she first meets new people but quickly bonds. After spending a few days in a scary shelter, we can't blame her for wondering what is going on. Tink gets along great with other dogs. She is indifferent to cats and easily cohabitated with the 3 cats in her foster home. Tink also loves to walk and does incredibly well on a leash. She would thrive in a home where she can go on walks several times a day, or into a fenced yard where she can run and play. She even has a cute prance that she does as she leads you along a walking path. What Tink loves most is a lap to cuddle against and a bed to snuggle in at night. She loves to bury under the covers in cool weather and will stay happily nested throughout the night.

Though shy at first, Tinkerbell has a big, loving personality that she is eager to share with her forever family. This happy-go-lucky girl is going to make an incredible companion!

Tink is in foster care in Rocky Mount, NC. If Tinkerbell sounds like a good match for your home,
please visit our adoption application page.

2018 Carolina Poodle Rescue Calendar Available!

We held our annual Calendar Photo Contest this year. The top 12 winners are in the "calendar monthly spread". We had some wonderful pictures of dogs to choose from. It was really difficult for our judges! Every photo submitted is in the calendar either as a winner for the month or in a thumbnail located throughout the calendar. They make wonderful holiday gifts. You can order online and they will also be available at the Reunion.

Ongoing Fundraisers

Carolina Poodle Rescue is looking ahead to improving the lives of 8 special dogs with cataracts. With this fundraiser, donors have the chance to see how your generosity and kindness helps these dogs to see again! And watch how it changes their lives for the better.

With your help, we've done this for other cataract dogs in the past few years. Restored sight gave these dogs a new chance not only to see but to find homes--and now we hope to do the same for these dogs.

In total, our goal is $17,000 for these dogs--and, thanks to you, we are almost half way to our goal!

Fred and Jeri Abrams have adopted multiple rescue dogs and are advocates and supporters of Carolina Poodle Rescue where they adopted their current dogs. Their goal is to connect with young people and convince them that adopting a rescue is preferable to buying a pet shop or puppy mill dog. This is their second book about a CPR dog. The first is Rusty--the Little Red Dog.

Pogo--the Puppy Mill Dog (A Rescue Tale) is the true story of a cock-a-poo rescued from a puppy mill by a rescue shelter and adopted into her forever home. Pogo had serious health problems that were overcome by the rescue shelter. The book follows Pogo's experiences at the puppy mill, at the rescue shelter, and in her forever home. The authors hope that the book will encourage parents and children to adopt a rescue dog rather than buy a puppy mill or pet shop dog. All profits from sales go to Carolina Poodle Rescue (www.CarolinaPoodleRescue.org) who rescued her and arranged for her heart surgery.

Upcoming Events

Come out and support Carolina Poodle Rescue and tell all your friends, too! Even if you can help out for just a few hours at one event, it is a tremendous help! And spread the word about Carolina Poodle Rescue!

Volunteers are needed to help educate people about Carolina Poodle Rescue and the adoption of pets. If you have a CPR foster dog, this is a great opportunity for your foster to browse potential forever families and find the best one for them! Many people think "rescue" dogs were given up because they are "bad" or damaged dogs. They don't always realize how much difference a good home can make and that a lot of the dogs have just had bad luck (perhaps an owner became sick, lost job, etc.). We can show them what wonderful companions are available through rescue. All you need to bring is a chair and a great attitude to share with others! Come prepared for inside or outside depending on the event you are attending.

Please contact the event coordinator if you would like to volunteer or have a foster or two or more to bring!

Tell 5 friends!?Check Carolina Poodle Rescue out on our Facebook page.

Can you tell 5 friends about CPR? Can you Facebook or Twitter a link to our web page? The power of networking is unlimited. Telling 5 friends, and asking them to tell 5 friends, is the best way to reach many people and tell them about the animal rescue, small but determined to make a difference.? Thank you!

Patrons are our lifeline -- our patrons keep CPR going. Patrons are not only assisting CPR, they are assisting themselves by earning money off their next adoption. For more information on how to become a patron, please email donna@carolinapoodlerescue.org.

When you shop on Amazon, you can also help CPR. Amazon Smile operates EXACTLY like Amazon.com including using the same userid and password. You can designate CPR as your charity and Amazon will donate a percentage of your purchases, behind the scenes, to CPR. It does not change your purchase price.

The site says: "Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of your eligible Amazon Smile purchases to the charitable organization of your choice", that is the purchase price you pay, excluding taxes. It's a really easy way for your regular shopping to help CPR!

One of the best ways to help poodles in need that lets you do it from home is to be an adoption counselor. Do you have 2 to 4 hours per week to give? Do you have an unlimited phone plan? Do you have Word? Do you enjoy talking to other dog-friendly people on the phone? Do you have good instincts about people? If so - adoption counselor work may be for you. For more information, email Sherry Wilson at poodles4ever@bellsouth.net.

With pet health care quality now approaching the same level as human care, there are more options available for the pet owner than ever before. Unfortunately, those options can be expensive. Who wants to make the decision between a few dollars and their beloved companion?

Trupanion offers the only 90% coverage plan for covered items. That's right - 90% coverage with no limit after your deductible is met. 90%. That is the most comprehensive health care plan in the industry.

Carolina Poodle Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible.

Our Mission:
To rescue, rehabilitate, offer permanent sanctuary and, when appropriate, rehome needy poodles and small dogs.

To encourage the human-animal bond by promoting activities that serve to bring animals and their people closer together.

To support the efforts of those in the animal rescue community seeking to end euthanasia as a means of population control.
