Well keeping Lady Pearl quiet is quite a challenge!  She is getting better every day.

Pearl had her surgery today.  All went well and she is resting comfortably at home now.

Please meet Pearl.  Born October 23, 2009, this happy little baby was doing well until January 27, 2010.   That's when she managed to fall down the stairs and fracture her elbow.  It's been all down hill from there.

Hopefully we can change that.

Pearl was released to CPR last Thursday 02/04/2010 by her tearful breeder/owner.  With quotes to repair the leg far out of their price range, the owner's felt that this baby would do better with someone who had more resources and could find a fix and then find her a perfect home.  We had Pearl's first vet assessment the next day and have been working with the vets ever since to do the best for Pearl.

Unfortunately, the fracture she has is more of a split in one of the bones in the elbow and will not heal without surgery and then pins to hold the bones together while they heal.  With Pearl's diminutive stature (she weighs all of 2 lbs) surgery poses very serious risks but not operating poses just as many risks to her ability to be mobile as she grows up.  Our surgeon is also concerned that the bones will be too soft to pin properly but he is going to try.

Because the injury is now almost a full two weeks old, time is of the essence.  Her tiny bones are trying to knit now and they will heal wrong if nature takes its course.  If that happens, she could face amputation.  Our surgeon is working overtime to clear his calendar to operate either today or first thing in the morning.  Pearl is at the vet's now.

We are fortunate to have found a local surgeon who is supportive of CPR and rescue and who has done these types of repairs before.  He is charging CPR significantly below the original quote of $2400.  We are being told to expect a total price, baring any complications, of $500.  I confess, considering what I was expecting, I cried with joy when he gave me that quote.

Pearl is a happy go lucky toy poodle girl.  She has been playing non stop since she got here, despite the cast on her front leg.  She's cuddly and sweet and loves to give kisses.  She has no clue she is hurt and I hate that she'll be in pain for a while but I promise to spoil her during her rehab.  Afterwards, I'll be working hard to find her the perfect home.  We already have one family very interested.

Please join me in prayers to guide the surgeon's hands, and in healing for Pearl.  If you'd like to help us pay for Pearl's surgery, please click on the "donate to CPR" button in the upper right hand corner to donate by credit card or PayPal.  Please put in the notes that it is for Pearl.
