Fancy UPDATE 7/22/08

Well, this little girl is home from the hospital and she is in high spirits. Even with the cast the size she is, she was just happy to be back here with her crew. (So, we've gotten a little attached to one another.) And it wasn't like she was mistreated by any means at the hospital. I needed to get her home, so those nurses would stop spoiling her!!! (Thank you Tami!!!)

Going into her surgery yesterday we were prepared for the worst, but were hoping for the best. Dr. Allen is an amazing surgeon (really, they all are at this practice!) but he was concerned with the age of the injury and the size of this little one's leg. We had three options, the first two both consisted with saving the leg, just two different ways of doing it. The first option was using a plate and screws to actually fix the fracture, the other consisted of placing a rod down her leg to hold the leg in place. Option two was back up in case the bones couldn't hold the plate and screws. Then the third option was amputation if the bone was so compromised that he couldn't get anything to hold. But I knew leaving her in Dr. Allen's hands, would be our only shot at saving this leg.

With Upstate Veterinary Specialist being the wonderful vets they are, Dr. Allen called just after 11:00 am yesterday and said that she was waking up and he had repaired the fracture (option #1) and hopefully in about 12 weeks she would have all this behind her. I was relieved and happy that she got the opportunity to have this surgery. Finding her way to rescue was the best thing that ever happened to this sweet child.

For the next 4-8 weeks we go back once a week for rechecks and bandage changes. She also has to limit activity for the next 8-12 weeks, translation, I must carry her everywhere! And hopefully after that she will be completely recovered and healed. Then we will have to have her spayed and have those teeth addressed! Poor baby has double teeth in several places where the permanent teeth didn't push out the puppy teeth!

Thank you all for caring so much about this little girl. I'm glad we were able to help her the way we have. I want to personally thank everyone that has contributed towards her surgery fund. She seems to know she is on her way to recovery and she seems very thankful.

Thank you all so much!
Ashley and Little Miss Fancy

Jumping off her deck proved to be a bad idea for this sweet, little fur baby!

This accident resulted in a badly broken leg that requires very expensive surgery - this may involve amputating her leg if they cannot save it. Due to this possibility, her owners decided to discard her - they obviously considered her a fancy accessory instead of a sweet little girl with so much love to give.

This petite red-headed beautiful baby (all 2 lbs!) is right at a year old. Her birthday was June 20, 2007. She spent her 1st birthday this year with a broken leg. As a belated birthday gift to Fancy can you help to raise $2,500.00 to have her leg repaired? This tiny girl deserves to find her forever home and experience what real love is.

Please reach into your heart and help this little girl with her surgery costs.
