Chad
Update! Chad had his heartworm treatment and is making wonderful strides!!
Vet bill: $300.00
Hello, y'all!
I'm writing today to introduce you all to Chad (also known as Buddy), and to ask for your help for him and some of our other very special CPR dogs.
It seems very appropriate that I'd be talking to you about this today, the day we give each other construction-paper hearts and heart-shaped candy boxes, and talk about the love in our hearts. In the few weeks since I agreed (or rather badgered Donna long enough that she finally said YES! *g*) to foster Chad, I've found that he is as loving and big-hearted as they come -- gentle and affectionate. He would very happily sit quietly beside you for hours for an occasional petting. When he really wants some loving, he'll slip his head under your hand and nudge until you get the right idea. Chad also loves going outdoors, but he can't go zooming around the yard like my standard, Gideon, does. As some of you know, Chad has a severe case of heartworms, and right now he is coughing and having trouble breathing because of them.
What you may not know is how Chad came to be a rescued dog. The long and short of it is this: Chad's family moved away and left him. Knowing Chad, I find it hard to believe that someone just left him to starve. It hurts my heart to think of him waiting, day after day, for his family to come back. When he first came to CPR, he weighed less than 30 lbs. He's put on almost 10 lbs. now, but I can still feel his ribs and hip bones when I pet him. Despite his abandonment, he is not mistrustful of people or skittish at all.
Chad saw the veterinarian again today about his cough. She was very concerned about what she saw. She told me "I don't want to scare you, but this is serious. I've seen dogs in his condition just drop dead." Even though he's still underweight, she wants him to start treatment as soon as possible.
I don't know about any of y'all, but I had no idea how expensive heartworm treatment can be. Treatments can run $350 to $500. Now, multiply that by the five other dogs that CPR has who ALSO need heartworm treatment, and you see the extent of the financial situation. Donna recently wrote about operating costs at the farm, but special medical treatments like these are over and above even those expenses. CPR needs help if they're going to be able to make it happen. So, I wanted to ask -- please -- for help for these dogs, so we can get them healthy and ultimately get them into a loving forever home.
Please help if you can today -- it can be your Valentine's Day treat for CPR!
