Attention all Adopters and Fosters!!!

We are trying to compile and create an ADOPTION WALL (or collage) at Dreamweaver.  This would be a compilation of pictures of the dogs that have been adopted from CPR and that are in foster care.  We want to be able to show how HAPPY our dogs are with their families!!!  So get your camera out....and have someone take a picture of your family with your pooch.  Don't forget to tell your name and the name of the dog that was adopted.  All of you foster homes that "failed fostering 101"...this is you too!!

Send your pictures digitally to dp10isnut@sc.rr.com  or if you have photos, please send a copy to Debbie Poston 115 Fleetwood Drive  Lexington SC  29073. Can't wait to hear from you!!

What We Are Doing At Dreamweaver Farms

Boy have we been busy at Dreamweaver Farms. On June 3rd we had a “Painting Day”. We cleaned and painted the entire floor of the kennel. We also painted the front of the building, one end of the building and started painting the other end before we ran out of paint. Boy does it look GREAT! We had quite a crew show up. The crew consists of (from left to right) Beth Jancse, Jay Jancse, Donna Ezzell, Wayne Ezzell, Chris Foster, Sue Wortman, Haskell Howard, Jade Murphy, (seated left to right) Doug Parlour, Sylvia Howard and Karen Martin. Not shown here but showed up later – Ashley and Chris Reider. Thanks to these volunteers for they also donated the paint. The Poodle shown is: Our own Ezzell’s Samson. And look at the last page of this newsletter for more pictures of our work day.

Foster Dog of The Month

Penelope

Hello Everyone!  Meet Carolina Poodle Rescue's very first FOSTER DOG OF THE MONTH!   Penelope is a very sweet and loving resident at Dreamweaver Farms.  She is a parti-color mini poodle and weighs about 18 pounds.  She has personality plus.  She is a little shy, especially with men, and will need some patience until she knows she can trust you. After that, be prepared for lots of love and excitement.  Penelope is a wonderful girl and will make a super pet for the right forever home!

A Challenge For You

A very generous person has offered to match any donation. Here is the deal. You donate let say, $25. They will match it with $25. The total limit is $500. So if we get a total of $500 from all of you, they will match it. We could end up with $1000! If anyone decides to donate for this challenge, please mark on your check or paypal “challenge” for tracking purposes.

Sponsor-A-Poo

Last month, the Spartanburg Animal Control seized 21 poodles living with an 80 year old woman in Spartanburg SC.  The poodles were not abused - but they were neglected beyond belief. We understand the owner apparently has or is in the early stages of Alzheimer's.  She was
living with a relative and had turned the house over to the dogs.  Most had never been groomed and they never went outside, and the stench was unbearable, etc. The owner loved her dogs and thought she was taking good care of them.  They are all white oversized toys and some mini's.  There are some mixed breeds in here - there was apparently a cocker spaniel in the woodpile some time back.

The owner had relinquished the dogs to the local HS.  The HS here has had them shaved down, altered, vaccinated, and most had dentals.  There are still some lingering skin issues but those will resolve now that all that hair is off of them.   They are timid and shy but sweet.  No
aggression issues at all.  This is just a bunch of lap dogs.
We now have 14 of these dogs in our kennels. Most of them have come around wonderfully and they are adoptable. We would like to thank our donators for their contributions for us to get these dogs out of the shelter: Beth Horsley, Sherry Kelly, Bay Area Poodle Rescue, Else Leek, Tidelands Poodle Club, Jo Anne Salter, Terry Abell, and Candice King-Palgut. Without their donations for this cause, we wouldn’t have been able to get these dogs.

We Really Need Dog Food!

With all those poodles, we need food all the time. If you would like to help us with the food, you can send gift cards from Sam’s Club. We always need small and medium collars in red and blue. Please mail to: Carolina Poodle Rescue, 10901 Reidville Rd., Greer, SC 29651. ANY help would be appreciated by the volunteers and the furry ones.
Wish list:
Publix or Sam’s Club gift cards for food and treats

We're always looking for dedicated volunteers. A variety of positions are open, everything from helping check vet & personal references, doing dog social time and grounds work at Dreamweaver Farm, assisting with computer stuff, helping foster and more!! Please email Terry Abell at: tabell@mailer.fsu.edu.

Meet One Of Our Adopters

By Janie Dillon
Working for CPR puts one in touch with some very special people.  Every once in a while there is one who really stands out.  Debbie Avise is one of these.  Luck of the draw gave me her application.  She wanted a tiny, toy poodle named Puffy.
Our application process takes some time because first and foremost we want our dogs to go to their forever homes.  Straight to these homes with no more changes than absolutely necessary.  This has paid off in the past with a 2% return for incompatibility!  But even before her references came in, this letter appeared:
Dear Puffy,
I sent an application for your adoption, and received an e-mail that CPR is reviewing it and will be contacting me in a few days.  Our whole family, human and dog, are anxiously awaiting to hear from them.  We have fallen in love with you and can't wait to have you join our family.  Coco Chanel needs a sister to play poodle games like chase, tag, and tug of war.  I hope your foster mom is giving you lots of hugs and kisses, in my behalf.  I know that even if you’re a little shy, you are going to love it here.  We have a large fenced backyard and my other dogs love to chase squirrels and birds.  Most of our neighbors are multiple dog owners.  My husband and I love our dogs.  Our dogs are our life, and always come first.  We can't wait to have you as a part of our family.
                                                                             Love, hugs, and kisses,
                                                                               Debbie Avise

I was touched and decided then and there, these two were made for each other.  All references and our TI (telephone interview) only made me feel more strongly.  This is a story Debbie told me as a side event:
Last year during the ice storm the dogs were barking like crazy.  Went to the door to find a pit bull on their covered front porch.  Skin & bones, had had pups within the past  2 months.  They went outside, dog was gentle and friendly, brought her in, fed her lots.  Husband showered her, dried her and she slept in daughter's room.  Next day called shelters only to find no room; they would have to euthanize.  Put ad in paper, talked with pitbull people who helped with questions for screening.  Had some awful calls.  Finally placed her.  Couple came from 2 hours away to get her.  The Avises had  kept her for a week and a half.
Before the home visit and a trip to Dreamweaver, Puffy and I had another letter:  I am so excited about adopting Puffy, I can hardly wait until my Sunday home visit.  The seconds, minutes, and hours seem an eternity. I am pacing nervously around like an expectant mother.  Call it intuition or just pure craziness, but I feel Puffy loves and wants me a much as I want and love her.  I'm filled with anxiety that someone will get there and adopt my "Puffy" before I do on Sunday.  Please don't let anyone else have her.  Puffy, mommy will not sleep nor rest until I arrive on Sunday and bring my "Baby Puffy Pooh" home where I know you belong.  You are already in our hearts and souls.  I bought you a new black patent collar with a Rhinestone heart and a shiny pink one also.  I also bought you a bag of stuffed toys and one is a tiny white poodle which I know you'll enjoy!  I wish  I was there now to love and pet on you but I promise I will make up for it on Sunday. Mommy's coming! Anxiously awaiting Sunday, Debbie Avise
Well, the rest is history.  Debbie and her husband did pass the HV.  They did make the trip to meet Puffy.  And they did take her home with them.  We continue to hear from Debbie and Puffy which is no surprise.  She is just that special sort of person.  Thus her family is just that special sort of family.  And I am grateful that our paths crossed.
