Julia's Fund

We have a fund in Memory of Julia. The goal is to have a house built on the Dreamweaver Farms property. We will call it "Julia's House". This will be a house where our volunteers or adopters will be able to stay overnight. Our volunteers tend to come from long distances and while the RV has helped out, the Julia House will be perfect for this need.

Julia's Fund is at $810 at this time.

Meet one of our Volunteer's

We would like to highlight some of our volunteer's in the next few newsletters. Each volunteer brings different something to our group. So we would like to thank them for their contribution! We wouldn't be able to do this without them.

My Thoughts,

If you look at the New Year as an opportunity to get started on things, then you’re not alone. Statistics tell us that the majority of people resolve to take on a new project or new habit at the beginning of a new year. Most of us get started, but somewhere along the way, we don’t get as much done as we planned.

One of the things most disliked by everyone is getting our financial house in order. We buy baskets, clean out receipts, and even organize files. However, we are reluctant to review life-planning documents like our wills, powers of attorney and the like. It’s just the thought that drives most of us away.

I’d like to challenge all the folks reading this article to “buck” the trend of procrastination in dealing with these documents. Pull out that will and the other documents. Read them and think about what it is you want. Moreover, if these documents are five or more years old, PLEASE call an attorney and ask if the laws in your state have changed in any way that mean you need to update your documents.

Another consideration for you is to think about is a bequest to Carolina Poodle Rescue. Bequests are gifts and with all gifts, it REALLY is the thought. Please don’t fall into the trap of thinking that you don’t have enough to leave a bequest. Bequests can be any amount. It takes $2,000+ just to keep the kennel operational for one month. While that is a lot of money in most households, it may not be a lot in terms of an estate.

Here’s wishing you & yours a healthy, happy and organized 2008!

Adoptable Dog of the Month

Meet Alex

Alex is such a sweet little guy. He is a white miniature poodle who came to us heartworm positive. He has been treated and is ready to go!

Alex is still a little bit shy. He does well in a noisy household with children. He is still not too sure about that Dad person. But he does like to get those treats from the Dad. He has started to come out of his shell a little bit and play with the other dogs. That cold weather certainly makes him spunky.

All Alex wants is a lap! Anytime the Mom person sits down...Alex is there and won't budge.

Alex does have a scar on his left shoulder. Now that his hair is long, the scar is covered by the longer hair. Once you look into his beautiful, trusting brown eyes....who notices?

We Still have 2008 Calendars!

The Harry Potter Fund

CPR has created a fund called the"Harry P Wood Memorial Emergency Veterinary Care Fund" in honor of the standard poodle known as Harry Potter and owned by Kelli Wood.

The purpose of the fund is to provide no interest loans to adopters in the case of extraordinary vet bills incurred in emergency situations for their adopted pet. For example, let's say that someone adopts from us and years down the road the dog has to have some kind medical treatment which they might not be able to afford. If the adopter lets us know and after we verify the information, we can loan to them at no interest from this fund. That way we won't have to pull from our everyday expenses.|

If you would like to donate to this fund, please see the bottom of the newsletter for donation information.
