This is the first time we combined newsletter issues. We wanted to have the update for the Fix that Roof! project. So we delayed the April issue. Look for the newsletter to resume on the June 25 issue.

Fix that Roof!

We have now finished our roof and the floor!! We need to first thank all of you who helped. Thank you to those who donated the funds to this project. Thank you to our Volunteer's who gave their time (and backs) to help get this project ready. Thank you to all of the BMW employees who volunteered their time. This would not have been done without you. Thank you to ABC Supply Co, located in Greer SC, who gave us a really good deal on the shingles and the delivery of them.

Spring Fling

We had our 2nd Annual Spring Fling on Saturday April 26, 2008 this year. This year we were preparing the kennel for the Fix that Roof! project. We had a very nice turnout from our Volunteer's this year.

We first had to move fencing. This needed to be done so that we could rearrange all of the dogs. Little dogs on one side, big dogs on the other. We had more help then we needed from the little poodles running all around.

Next, we completely REMOVED the entire side of the kennel that housed the dogs. We were able to rent a drum sander and sanded it to remove the old paint. We won't talk about running over the cord and running over the nail still in the floor (we had insurance - good thinking Wayne). Lol. We also made sure to wash the floor really well and prepared it by cleaning it with a cleaner for the sealant. Now to let it dry!

The roof was also repaired for the shingles. We had to replace some of those boards that were rotted. So now the roof is already to go - to last for more years to come. Thanks again, Jay!

After our long day and that slave driver (not naming names), we were able to have a nice sit-down dinner at Pete's Restaurant. We enjoyed a nice Italian dinner and a birthday cake for Laura Karas's birthday.

On Sunday, April 27, the volunteer's finished painting some of the walls (nice bright colors for the poos) and we applied the first coat of light gray sealant to the floor. It looked great at that point.

Monday, April 28. So how DO you get all of those shingles on the roof? Five guys and a boom truck (with an operator)! ABC Supply Company (thank you Danny Coy) delivered the shingles with a boom truck too. That large arm on the truck would lift the shingles up to the roof and the guys (Wayne Ezzell, Jay Jancse, Travis Bolin, Lannie Birdsong and David) would take them off and spread the packs over the roof. That was still back-breaking work. But it was much better that walking all of those shingles up the ladder! Thank you guys & ABC Supply Co.

The Harry Potter Fund

CPR has created a fund called the"Harry P Wood Memorial Emergency Veterinary Care Fund" in honor of the standard poodle known as Harry Potter and owned by Kelli Wood.

The purpose of the fund is to provide no interest loans to adopters in the case of extraordinary vet bills incurred in emergency situations for their adopted pet. For example, let's say that someone adopts from us and years down the road the dog has to have some kind medical treatment which they might not be able to afford. If the adopter lets us know and after we verify the information, we can loan to them at no interest from this fund. That way we won't have to pull from our everyday expenses.|

If you would like to donate to this fund, please see the bottom of the newsletter for donation information.

BMW Volunteer Day

The day couldn't have been more perfect. There was a nice crisp chill in the air. Sunny the whole day. We had to wear long sleeves/jackets to start off with.

The BMW Performance Center gave us the honor of their volunteers for the day, April 29. They provided the muscle we needed to get this project done. They were: Jimmy Armell, Cameron Goforth, Willie Hammons, Jay Jancse, Gaston Rodriguez, Stephen Soncini, Terry Spivey, Jonathan Stribble, and Dwayne Wright. Thank you! They did an excellent job representing BMW.

Can you believe they finished the shingles on the roof in a day? 4 nail guns and it took 5 hours for the guys to finish the roof (except for the cap - we ran out of shingles).

Wllie Hammons and our Beth Jancse applied the final coat of the floor sealant. The floor looks fabulous!

The Friday, May 2nd, after BMW was here, Jay Jancse came back and finished the roof cap - thank you Jay!
