Never Say No

Two little poodle boys sit in the Knoxville TN shelter, waiting.  Brothers, they were turned in by their owner “can’t afford to take care of.”  One has heartworms.  The healthy one may be adopted.  The one with heartworms will most likely die.  5 rescue groups have been approached. None have room or resources to treat a heartworm positive dog.

I've been asked if we have room.

Another senior poodle also waits at the Knoxville shelter to hear what will happen to him.  He badly needs his teeth cleaned.  And he is older. Older dogs do not place quickly. He would be with us awhile.

His friend, a tiny poodle girl with badly luxating patellas also waits.  Luxating patella means surgery.  That is expensive. These two were found together as strays.

I've been asked if we have room.

Tonight there sits a poodle girl in the Charleston SC shelter.  She is 5 years old. She has heartworms.

A poodle mix girl is in a temporary foster home in Durham NC but that won’t last long.  She was found as a stray.  Her first home fell through.
I've been asked if we have room.

And 5 year old Bubba sits at a NC humane society, still trying to figure out why his owner had to die and leave him alone. No one has stepped forward for Bubba

I've been asked if we have room.

There is no room at this inn.  Dreamweaver Farms is full.  Our special needs slots and senior slots are more than full.  As of this week, if something does not change, we stop taking in all but the most highly placeable dogs and will reduce numbers to what our current resources can support.

I am saying NO to poodles and poodle mixes.  This doesn’t make me happy at all.  I don’t like the word NO.  When I say NO, dogs die.

We’re looking for an explosion.  To do it – we need 1500 people supporting our sanctuary with their gift of $15 per month for the next 15 months.  It’s a lot of people to reach.  We need all of you helping to reach them.

Do you our volunteers and fans and friends and adopters, believe that we can Never Say No?  I believe you do.  I believe you know what we’re doing is good.

Will you tell your friends?  Will you Facebook and Twitter?  Will you open your own hearts and pocketbooks?  It's a small amount, less than the price of a movie and popcorn.  Yet $15 per month insures that dogs like those above will not have to die.

The dogs and I are waiting to hear.
